Unless the only thing you’ve seen and heard over the past few months are PS4 media updates, it been near impossible to avoid the hype surrounding the latest Hunger Games instalment. The film franchise has hit critical mass and is not only one of the hottest box office smashes of 2013, it has made a sizeable impact on the fashion world for both men and women.

Women seemed to have jumped on something the lads have known for a while: durability and workwear-inspired clothing is cool! From Herschel hats to Dr Martens boots, Superdry coats to Levis jeans – or even a flat cap – the practicality of these items make them an instant style classic and Catching Fire has amped this up.

Now, whilst there’s no contending Caesar Flickerman’s blue eyebrows and opulent suits aren’t worthy of a fashion how-to-guide, it might be best to start things off gently. This article will look at the best way to create a smart casual look inspired by the stylish durability of the District 12 boys, Peeta and Gale.

Outerwear

A utility jacket is a great way to work the look we’re going for as they can be dressed up or down. This Superdry on Duty Utility Jacket, available from House of Fraser, is perfect for layering winter woollens with, or smartening up with sharp pair of boots. If you want something a bit more thermal, this Alpine Jacket is perfect for keeping the chills at bay.

Jumpers

If there’s one thing Gale knows how to rock, it’s a piece of knitwear. Hunting expeditions often take him into the forest and whilst you might not be spearing pheasants, the winter weather is pretty wild. Ensure your warmth with a nature inspired jumper. Something like this Suit green cable knit sweater from Urban Outfitters would be perfect. Team it with a blue collar denim shirt for a rugged twist to your smart casual look.

Jeans

Denim featured heavily through both Hunger Games films, especially when in the Districts. Both men and women were spotted in muted tones and charcoal coloured jeans. Channel the look perfectly with theses slim-fit grey Lee Jeans for a suitable smartening of the industrial look.

T-shirts

For the perfect everyday tee, follow Peeta’s example and invest in an excellent quality, basic black, form-fitting design. It works great alone or layered under the other items on this list. American Apparel make some outstanding cotton tees that would work wonders for your look.

So, there you have an easy way to create a smart casual look inspired by the Hunger Games’ leading men. Now all you need in Jennifer Lawrence on your arm for true authenticity.
