Kylie Minogue – Kiss Me Once

Kylie Minogue – Kiss Me Once
Kylie Minogue – Kiss Me Once | Album review

27 years after she burst out of Ramsey Street in a haze of hairspray and hot pink disco pants, Kylie has released Kiss Me Once, her 12th studio album. The reigning princess of pop has enjoyed a career that has earned her countless accolades; mostly recently naming her 2001 hit Can’t Get You Out of My Head the catchiest song of all time.

And as catchy songs go, there’s a fair few in Kylie’s latest offering, Kiss Me Once. A record that is true to her pop origins in every way, it is the unashamed explosion of pure pop that runs through her that has allowed Kylie’s success to run on and on.

There are no real surprises here, but it’s clear that Minogue knows how to make a great pop record, and she’s pulled out the formula once more, most notably on the album’s opener Into the Blue.

The first few songs set the album off in full throttle with busy tracks where upbeat, toe-tapping beats preside. Man of the moment, Pharrell lends his hit-making hand to I Was Gonna Cancel, that is as much of a characteristically catchy disco track as you would expect.

Some dubstep on Sexercise pulls Kiss Me Once bang up to date, while a slower duet with Enrique Inglesias on Beautiful is a surprising stand out number. The album comes full circle to close with Fine, a thumping, Kylie classic.

Kiss Me Once isn’t the most inspiring record, nor her best, but moves in so many different directions, you can’t help but commend her for producing a record that is so very Kylie, but still brings something new to her extensive catalogue. Kylie fans won’t be disappointed.
