Following co-ordinates

Looking back through the history of Hollywood, it’s surprising that co-ordinates have only recently hit the high street in a big way. Think Jean Shrimpton in that Lambretta advert, Twiggy in a 60s stripy two-piece, and Elizabeth Taylor in black hot pants and matching crop top. Nevertheless, today’s take on co-ords is a bit more fresh and exciting, with a number of different ways to work the two-piece trend.

As ever, florals have cropped up again this season and co-ords are no exception. These three designs scream summer. Missguided and Boohoo go for girly with bright colours, while ASOS define demure with this sophisticated two-piece.

Since the Olympic Games back in 2012, sports luxe style has reappeared in several seasons, and happens to work perfectly with S/S 2014’s co-ord trend. Topshop gives a twist on the tennis dress with a mint coloured crop and skirt.

If you’re looking for something a bit different, geometric shapes are definitely the way forward. The ASOS Aztec number is ideal for end of summer festivals, but Motel have really nailed the theme with monochrome and kaleidoscope print all in one, following through to next season. 

The best thing about co-ords is that you can mix and match pretty much any style or colour to make an entirely different outfit, and there’s nothing better than multi-functional fashion. If you’re after a bargain, you should also check out Etsy for some purse-friendly options.
