Gorgon City at The Forum

Gorgon City at The Forum | Live review

Electro-dance duo Gorgon City have been dominating the UK charts with their singles since 2013, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that the two finally released their long-awaited debut album, Sirens. We dropped by on their sold-out London date at The Forum in Kentish Town.

The night kicks off with the first of three support acts, The Six, who collaborated with Gorgon City on album track Take It All. They’re relatively unknown and the venue is still a little empty, but they play a good set and have the audience enthralled. Next up, Sinead Harnett’s street-pop vibes and endearing lyrics have us and the crowd hooked. Last up before the main event is DJ B Traits, and by the time she leaves the stage most of the crowd is buzzing.

Eventually, a little too late to be called “fashionable”, the duo make their way on stage to loud cheers and probably quieter murmurs of “finally“. They open with a remix medley and save their biggest hits, Here for You and Ready for Your Love, for later in the set – a good move and a promising start. But despite the claims made on the band’s Facebook flyer, the show doesn’t end at 2am, rather, the duo shuffles off at around midnight, after a short 55-minute set. What little they do play is excellent; the crowd, atmosphere and transitions are almost perfect. They finish on Go All Night, which, given the circumstances, is kind of ironic. Around half the crowd goes home happy, sweaty and danced out, but we and many others, go home less than impressed.
