Ariana Grande has been announced as the new face of MAC’s Viva Glam campaign.

The 22-year-old singer is following in the footsteps of the likes of Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Lady Gaga, all of whom have in the past been spokeswomen for the campaign. This year’s Viva Glam range will include Ariana’s new plum-hued matte lipstick and shimmering pink lip gloss, and (as usual), all of the proceeds will be donated to those who have been affected by HIV & AIDs.

In her choice of plum and pale pink, Ariana has moved away from the bright pink and red shades favoured by previous Viva Glam girls. She explained in a livestream that her dramatically contrasting products are designed to represent the “good” and “bad” in everyone, and can be worn alone or together – depending on the mood.

The products themselves won’t be available to buy until January, but MAC has already shared a peek at the Ariana’s campaign. Pretty and pink, with just the right amount of edge, the image shows the singer posing in front of an illustrated portrait of her own face. Dressed in a black crop-top, mesh skirt and her signature thigh-high boots, she sports her customary ponytail and her new dark lipstick.

The singer took to Instagram to express how “honoured and excited” she felt to be working with MAC, adding “ have loved and supported Mac Cosmetics ever since I was a little girl walking through the mall and saw your first Viva Glam girl in the window [Ru Paul]”.

New lipsticks and an incredible cause – what’s not to be excited about?
