Just like clothing trends, hairstyles keep changing with the seasons. Stylish locks are a must, and you can almost always tell the fashion era of the day by looking at the hair trends. The way you wear your hair can transform your look from boring wallflower to exciting being, full of life and vivacity. It can take you from frumpy to chic in an instant, boosting your self-esteem in the process.

Think about the last time you did something different with your hair. How did it make you feel? There’s something about lovely locks that makes you feel you can take on the world. It infuses you with the confidence you need to take whatever life throws at you. Combine the right hairstyle with the perfect clothes and you’ll heighten the feel-good factor. The assurance that you look stunning will give you the poise you need to ace that interview you’ve been dreading and grab attention at that party.

The best thing about transforming your hair is that you can do it instantly, whenever you feel like it. You don’t have to wait for a special occasion to get you started – you can give yourself a new look any time, simply by tweaking your tresses.

Get inspired

So, now you’re all pumped to change how your hair looks but are stumped on what to do. Worry not: there are lots of places to find inspiration for your next look. One of the best ways to do this is to check out celebrities for new ideas.

Victoria Beckham, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are just some of those who’ve changed their locks in the past few months. Other stars such as Rihanna and Demi Lovato have garnered a host of loyal followers, thanks to their constantly changing up-dos. It doesn’t matter what kind of hair you like – loose curls, chic chignons or straight and sleek – there’s guaranteed to be a celebrity already sporting it. This means that you are unlikely to run out of ideas for your own hair. You can even plagiarise a style from Nicki Minaj for those wild parties or when you just want something dramatically different.

You could also expand your research to fashion magazines, online blogs and websites, as well as consultations with your friends and family.

Transformation options

As you do your research, take note of the favourite styles you’d like to experiment with. Remember, not all styles you like will look good on you – you need to consider the shape of your face and body, your fashion sense, your hair texture and length, as well as the type of look you want to recreate.

There are a variety of ways forward, most focusing on changing the length, colour and style. If you are still on the fence about making permanent changes to your tresses, you can use weaves, wigs or extensions to achieve the look you want without the commitment. For instance, there are extensions available in a wide range of styles and colours and allow you to safely add length and volume without affecting your hair. These extensions come as clip-ons or stickups for easy attachment and removal.

Alternatively, you can decide to cut or dye your hair. It is always best to seek out the services of a professional hairdresser or stylist to avoid messing up your natural mane. You can experiment with short pixie cuts and razor-sharp bobs or just take off a few inches to increase your hair’s movement. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to colour; depending on your taste, you can go for silver or violet strands, plum or auburn shades, or even create an ombré effect by dyeing your tips. And, of course, you can select wilder colours if you wish.

Sometimes, you can be pressed for cash but still keen to try new hairstyles. Don’t fret. You can achieve several different looks simply by braiding or styling your hair differently. For example, you can use smaller or bigger-sized curling rods in your curling iron to modify your curls. Additionally, check out hair blogs to get ideas on a wide range of braiding styles with which you can experiment.

When it comes to hair transformations, only you can hold yourself back, so get out there, do your research and come up with a fantastic look that will make you feel inspired, confident and beautiful.
