Mother! premiere: A chat with Jennifer Lawrence, Darren Aronofsky, Domhnall Gleeson and Scott Franklin

Mother! is the new psychological thriller from the director of 2010 masterpiece Black Swan, The Wrestler and cult classic Requiem for a Dream. The stellar casted film follows a couple, played by Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem, as they descend from the safe world of suburbia into a dark and disturbing madness after their neighbours, Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris, come into their lives. A visually bold and gory exploration of anxiety and the conscious versus subconscious, the film is already proving divisive amongst viewers. We were there for the UK premiere in London’s Leicester Square to hear more from the cast and director about creating the provocative film.

We heard from the incredible Jennifer Lawrence about the challenges of working on her darkest movie to date.

From the inimitable Darren Aronofsky on the relationship between the environment and women explored in his film.

Domhnall Gleeson spoke about how he prepared for the role and the experience of working alongside the legends Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris as his parents.

And producer Scott Franklin spoke of how he went about realising Darren Aronofsky’s vision.
