Swedish School of Textiles spring/summer 2018 collection catwalk show for LFW
With inspiration ranging from the seated position to knots and the concept of hair, this show exhibits the inspiration that fresh talent has to offer. The ensemble collection was widely varied yet all students utilised the fusion of textures and volume of fabrics to create an exciting and visually stimulating show.
The catwalk opened with Louise Linderoth’s line titled Have a Seat, where she played around with composition, having the models seated in wheelchairs, in order to achieve unconventional expressions. This led to a whole new way of looking at denim and the traditional jean structure.
Another standout collection was Jennifer Larsson’s Knots, where the simple concept of a knot was used to create elaborate drapery through the designer’s own experimentation, also serving as decoration with its simple yet effective form.
The movement of material was a common observation throughout the collections with the jersey fabric of Caroline Moell’s designs, having an interesting buoyancy as the model walked down the runway.
And the traditionally elegant fluidity of Sofie Antonsson’s polyester designs in her collection Plastic Fantastic.
The upcoming designers proved they are leading the way for the future of fashion. Martha Lavinia Sundkvist’s collection The Clothes You Throw Away highlights that it is possible to create something beautiful out of discarded garments, to spotlight the issue of sustainable fashion.
Jonas Hedstrom’s collection Dress took advantage of the void for one piece garments in menswear. He explores new possibilities for men’s fashion by converging different garment types through drapery, rather than separating them into two separate pieces, consequently creating a more exaggerated silhouette.
Overall, the students of The Swedish School of Textiles have exhibited a fresh and innovative way of looking at fashion, with each collection being diverse in themes and ideas yet with a common understanding of fabric and texture to create successful and exciting designs.
