The Pay Day: An interview with Sam Bradford, Kyla Frye and Sam Benjamin

The Pay Day: An interview with Sam Bradford, Kyla Frye and Sam Benjamin

The Pay Day is a fun-fuelled heist movie with moments of jeopardy, romance and, at its heart, a story about the human condition. Adapted from a short film called Double Cross by the same team of writers and director, the premise remains much the same but has given new depths and expanded storylines.

The primary narrative falls on the shoulders of Jennifer (Kyla Frye), who, after losing her job as an It consultant, struggles to make ends meet and falls behind on her rent. A chance meeting with a less than honourable business man called Gates (Simon Callow) offers her the chance to amplify her dwindling funds from a rather dubious side hustle. The task involves illegal entry into a corporate office and extorting valuable data onto a hard drive that would then be worth millions. This illicit journey leads her to cross paths with a con-artist called George (Sam Benjamin), and an emotionally charged game of cat-and-mouse ensues.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to director Sam Bradford and screenwriters and actors Kyla Frye and Sam Benjamin in London about bringing this story to screen, having worked together on a previous project, and what they hope viewers will take away from The Pay Day.
