“When you see something that looks and feels real, it triggers a kind of primal response”: Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick on The Blair Witch Project’s 25th anniversary

The Blair Witch Project has its remarkable 25th anniversary this year. After premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, it grossed nearly $250 million worldwide. Therefore, it became one of the most successful independent films of all time. Besides, it became a “cult movie”, meaning it still has a massive fanbase after so many years.

For its anniversary, we spoke to the directors, Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, about the way they came up with this groundbreaking story, which imitated “found footage” recorded by three students, who enigmatically disappeared in the woods. They also told us which aspects of the movie still make them feel proud and why they believe that after so many years their film still feels so fresh and has so many enthusiasts all over the world.

The Blair Witch Project is released on Limited Edition Blu-ray on 11th November 2024.
