“It’s really important that these kind of events are happening”: Katy J Pearson on performing at the 100 Club for War Child – Day of the Girl

Acclaimed British indie-pop musician Katy J Pearson has joined forces with the charity War Child to lend her support to the Day of the Girl campaign. With her third albumSomeday, Now, co-produced by Nathan Jenkins aka Bullion, receiving critical acclaim, the singer/songwriter performed at the iconic 100 Club in London for an evening aimed at raising awareness and vital funds to support those living in crisis. Part of a multi-night event, the intimate space allowed for the chart-topper to perform a set of heartfelt songs, combining her unique folk-infused voice with lyrics that connected with the audience. She was supported by two other acts, Sarah Meth and Jimmy Means Smut, providing an energetic and uplifting evening of performances for a worthy cause.

With around 612 million women and girls living in areas of conflict zones where menstrual supplies and safe, clean spaces are minimal and also the constant threat of violence and sexual exploitation due to gender, the charity War Child started Day of the Girl campaign in 2021 with the intention of garnering support to eliminate the negative impact on these communities of vulnerable women and girls.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Katy J Pearson about her collaboration with the charity, how she feels about the work they do for girls living in turbulent times, and what she hopes people will take away from being part of the campaign by attending the gig and offering their support.
