Danny Gabbidon goal seals Mark Hughes’ first QPR victory in FA Cup tie against MK Dons

Mark Hughes’ side went into this FA Cup encounter against the MK Dons looking to brush aside a tantalising defeat suffered at the hands of a revitalised Newcastle side who sit in a remarkably high position in the table.

Hughes’ short tenure at the club has been riddled with speculation regarding the possible departure of Joey Barton and the increasingly likely arrival of the out of favours Chelsea defender, Alex.

The first half was a fairly even affair with neither side particularly producing any glorious chances, with a disallowed goal being the only talking point for the half time analysts. Shaun Wright-Phillips should have broken the deadlock, yet his hesitation allowed the MK Dons goalkeeper to stop his attempt.

The second half began and it was slightly livelier, with decent chances for both sides, yet neither side could produce anything of substance. Danny Gabbidon then produced the first goal; a nice delivery from the corner that allowed him to rise above the rest of the crowd to power in a header. A simple, yet effective strike from Hughes’ side. The game petered out but the R’s were good value for their win, and deservedly progressing into the next round.
