Lost at Sea: the power of stones

Lost at Sea: the power of stones

Stones and gems feature in a lot of jewellery. To some people they are just part of the decoration; they give the jewellery character. However, gemstones can, in fact, embody power and have much deeper meanings.

Lost at Sea is a jewellery label that originates in South Wales. Cat Jardine is the creative genius behind the label and started making jewellery when she was in art and design college. After Cat finished university she decided to set up her own jewellery store. She’d already had a couple of ceramic pieces feature in a couple of exhibitions and stores by this point. “I have always been very interested in gemstones and their properties and powers, so using them in my jewellery came naturally. I love being able to empower people through my jewellery and it’s great to see people becoming interested in gemstones.”

A lot of the jewellery that Lost at Sea sells is handcrafted. This black agate necklace is quite gothic and grungy, but when you look at other pieces you can see nautical elements coming through. It’s quite obvious in these silver anchor and ship wheel earrings.

It was learning about gemstones and their powers from a very young age and being able to incorporate those stones into jewellery and providing people with the knowledge and power that comes with each individual stone!”

So now when you see a piece of jewellery with a gemstone in it, it might make you think: “What will that gemstone bring to me?” One thing is for certain: the gemstones bring a new depth to what could be considered a simple piece of jewellery.
