Public warned not to “clog up” 999 phone lines as storm approaches
The Met Police are reminding the public not to call 999 unless it is an emergency as a storm predicted to be the worst of the century approaches.
High winds are expected to bring about an increase in demand of people calling the emergency services.
Police are reminding the public to dial 101 to contact the police about issues which are not classed as emergencies.
A spokesman for the Met Police said: “Calling 999 when it is not an emergency can reduce our effectiveness at dealing with genuine emergencies.
“Always continue to call 999 in an emergency- for example, when an immediate response is needed because a crime is happening, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, or someone is injured, being threatened or in danger,” he added.
The Met Police have also issued warnings to the general public and in particular motorists to be extremely careful during the severe weather conditions which are predicted to occur.
