Edinburgh police search for 3-year-old who went missing over night

Three-year-old Mikaeel Kular has disappeared from his family’s flat in Edinburgh. Neighbours and locals are aiding police in their search. 

“Adorable” Mikaeel is described as being 3ft tall, of Asian appearance and thought to be wearing a beige jacket, blue jogging bottoms, brown Clarks shoes and nightwear. 

Police claim that currently there is no evidence to imply criminality in the disappearance of the young boy, but are “keeping an open mind”. 

Superintendent Liz McAinsh is pressing people in the area to keep an eye out and to look in their gardens, sheds, or any other areas where a three-year-old might go. 

“We are focusing our search on the Pennywell area, the Muirhouse area of Drylaw in Edinburgh. We’re asking everybody who lives in that area or who travels through that area to keep their eyes open for this wee boy” she said. 

“He is just three-years old, so he won’t know his way about the local area,” she added. 

Mikaeel was last seen going to bed in his family’s flat in Ferry Gait Crescent, at around 9pm yesterday. Much to the devastation of his mother, he was discovered missing from his bed at 7:15am this morning. 

Police are not aware of any custody issues between Mikaeel’s parents at present, but will be speaking to the boy’s father, as well as all family members, in accordance with the lines of inquiry they will be following. They added that legal services and the family were being very helpful. 

When asked of the likelihood that the three-year-old left of his own volition, McAinish responded: “We know that his jacket and shoes are not within the property, so we are following up all lines of inquiry in that regard.” 

Neighbours are gathering to help in the search for this little boy. Linda Slattie, 52, commented: “There is no way a wee laddie could have got out of there on his own.”

According to the MET Office, temperatures dropped to 2.3C (36F) by 4am last night.

Mikaeel’s mother is said to be fraught with worry, and is asking for all the help she can get in finding her little boy. 

Officers have asked anyone who believes they have sighted Mikaeel last night or this morning, or have any potential information linked to the incident, to contact Police Scotland immediately on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
