Axwell Λ Ingrosso at Kamio
Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso’s set transforms the intimate Shoreditch basement of Kamio into Ibiza. Its sweaty, loud, bright and wild. No one held back, arms beat the air in tune to the music. Screams of approval accompanied each track. The mass of pulsating spectators were lit by strobes that along with the euphoric atmosphere created a sense of the unreal about the night.
The duo, who combined have sold more than 15 million records over their extensive careers, were always going to attract a large crowd to this secret gig. The small venue was packed with 200 people pushing to the front, getting so close to Axwell and Ingrosso that they could have touched them. There are few gigs, even in London, were almost every member of the crowd dances from the beginning to the end: this was one of those exceptions. The crowd loved them. DOD closed the night after the duo’s set. Selecting songs from their time in Swedish House Mafia and their own solo work including I Love You, they kept the momentum going for the 90-minute set, if anything it became crazier as the night progressed and the crowd utterly lost themselves to the music. The crowd sang along to Don’t You Worry Child; the red beams light up the stage pulsating faster as the song sped up. Another highlight of the evening was the massive mash-up of Alesso and Ingrosso’s Calling with You Got the Love and I Wanna Dance with Somebody.
The acoustics of the basement strengthened and deepened the sound forcing your limbs to move to the music. Some fans declared this was the best set they had seen of the duo: “Absolutely explosive”. One girl had travelled over ten hours to be here: “I would do it again,” she screamed. Everybody’s perfect antidote to stress and overworking – dancing wildly in a club to fun music. As is the case with most secret gigs, this felt intimate, unique and special. A once-in-a-lifetime party.
