Music providing the inspiration for games

You could say that everyone loves music in some way, shape or form. It’s been around forever and there’s always something to suit each person’s individual tastes. Over the years we’ve seen some real stand-out performers when it comes to music and this includes both solo artists and bands too. They’ve gone on to become hugely popular figures in general not just in the music industry and they have also managed to become huge influences in different areas too.

One area that has certainly profited from music is the game industry. You could say that it has utilised music in many ways too. First of all, every game comes complete with a soundtrack. Some soundtracks are specifically designed for the game they’re representing while others see a list of recognisable tracks combines to form a playlist.

It’s also believed that music actually gives gamers a bit of an edge while they are playing too. Gamers need to focus on the task at hand while okaying their favourite titles and music helps them to do this. It’s also great for immersing the player in the game too. Music goes a long way in setting the scene and the atmosphere of a game and without it games just simply wouldn’t have the same appeal.

It comes as no surprise that music has been the source of inspiration that game developers have used when creating fresh content for the market either. Some people just love music and can’t get enough of their favourite stars and the hits that they produced. This saw titles such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band make their way onto various platforms with spinoffs based on some of the most popular bands such as The Beatles.

Obviously, everyone associates music with dancing too, and this combination certainly proved successful with the many dance-based video games that hit the market. Dance Central and Just Dance were mega hits in the video game industry and the key to this was that audiences could dance along to all their favourite music tracks.

Most recently with the rise of smartphones and apps we have seen music become popular in mobile gaming too. Piano Tiles and Music Run became highly addictive games playing on iOS and Android-based devices and you expect that there will be more to come. It shows how far and wide music has been used as an inspiration for success in gaming.

So far, we’ve seen games inspired by.the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Motorhead, Kiss and Michael Jackson become big hits, with each title featuring some of their hit records. It’s the ideal way to enjoy gaming.

There is no doubt that music will always be a huge influence on all our lives, and it will continue to be a major source of inspiration. Let’s hope it will keep surprising us and making everything in our lives exciting and extremely pleasurable.
