An interview with Hinds: Ana Perrote and Amber Grimbergen talk about the band’s origins, inspiration and evolution

Hinds are a four-piece indie outfit hailing from Madrid whose second album I Don’t Run has just hit shelves. The youthful all-girl ensemble (named after “female deer”) is made up of Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrote on vocals and guitar, Ade Martin on bass and backing vocals and Amber Grimbergen on drums. The group had already caused ripples across the indie rock scene with their low-fi, edgy sound and high-energy, confident performances of debut album Leave Me Alone in 2016. Now the Spaniards are back, a little matured but as feisty and authentic as ever.

We caught up with two of the band members, Ana Perrote and Amber Grimbergen, ahead of a gig at South London’s Electric Brixton on a blistering hot day to find out what inspired this latest album, how their material has evolved since their first release and why, in the past, they felt they didn’t have support in their hometown of Madrid (but love playing the UK). The band have just announced their upcoming UK winter tour, 17 shows starting in Portsmouth on 12th November. They will play in London on 1st December at Hackney Arts Centre.
