After hooking audiences with its first season, Pete McTighe’s Welsh crime drama The Pact is returning to the BBC, but this time with a whole new cast and characters. While the first season centred around a vow of silence between colleagues when a work party prank goes wrong, this second season focuses on social worker Christine Rees (played by BAFTA-winner Rakie Ayola, who also serves as executive producer on the project and featured in season one, but stars here in a new role) and her three adult children, Megan, Will and Jamie. Already grieving the death of son Liam, their family dynamic is further upset when a boy shows up one day claiming to be a previously unknown fifth sibling, Connor. Themes of secrets and their consequences, morality and loyalty, and familial bonds and tensions are yet again brought to the fore through complex characters and many a plot twist in this edge-of-your-seat thriller set in the Welsh capital.

The Upcoming had a lovely chat with the faces of the new season, Mali Ann Rees, Jordan Wilks and Lloyd Everitt. They spoke about the appeal of presenting a new story, how they saw each of their characters, working with and learning from the series’ star, Ayola, and some of the best moments on set.
