Dream debuts for Carroll and Fletcher, whilst Everton see their 100% record go

West Ham 3-0 Fulham

Andy Carroll started life in East London with a fine performance helping West Ham cruise to a 3-0 win over London rivals Fulham.

Carroll managed to boss the Cottagers’ defenders, and set up two of the goals before limping up with a tight hamstring.

It took just 53 seconds for the home side to take the lead. Carroll climbed above his marker to help the ball onto Ricardo Vaz Te. He teed up skipper Kevin Nolan who drilled a finish past Mark Schwarzer in the Fulham goal.

The Hammers increased their lead when Matthew Taylor’s corner was meant by the incoming Winston Reid, who sent his header into the goal from six-yards.

The game was then wrapped up just before half-time, when Carroll once again played a key role. His presence allowed a loose ball fall to Taylor, who sent a low shot into the corner of the net to seal the victory.

Swansea 2-2 Sunderland

Two goals from Sunderland debutant, Steven Fletcher, helped the Black Cats draw at the Liberty Stadium, ending Swansea’s 100% record.

The £14 million man helped Martin O’Neill’s side take the lead five minutes before the break with a curling into the bottom corner.

However the Swans weren’t behind for long, and they responded through winger, Wayne Routledge, with a goal from 10-yards after some neat build-up play.

Against the run of play though, Fletcher scored again for the visitors. A defensive mix up between goalkeeper Michel Vorm and defender Chico allowed the striker to score from two-yards.

However the Welsh side always looked capable of levelling the game once again, and they did through Michu, bagging his fourth goal of the season. The Swansea talisman converting Jonathan De Guzman’s cross in the 66^th minute.

Chico then received a red card after fouling Louis Saha, however the dismissal couldn’t swing the game in anyone’s favour, with both sides leaving the Liberty with a point.

West Brom 2-0 Everton

Everton’s winning streak was ended at the Hawthorns with West Brom enjoying their best ever start to a Premier League season with a 2-0 victory on Saturday.

After a goalless first period, striker Shane Long opened the scoring, after good work from substitute, Peter Odemwingie crossed the ball from the left.

And with eight minutes to go, defender, Gareth McCauley, confirmed the result with a thumping header, ending the Toffee’s top-flight unbeaten run which lasted 11 games.

The Baggies’ victory saw them climb above their opponents in the table, rising o third in the table, whilst David Moyes’ side slipped to fifth.

Wigan 2-2 Stoke

Two goals apiece meant the points were shared at the DW Stadium in a thrilling 2-2 draw between Wigan and Stoke.

The home side went in front early, when Stoke defender, Robert Huth handled James McCarthy’s goal bound shot inside the box. Shaun Maloney dispatching the resulting spot-kick on five minutes.

Despite Wigan looking the better side, the visitors levelled 10 minutes before the interval. Maynor Figueroa this time adjudged to have handled inside his own area, with Jonathan Walters converting from 12-yards.

However just after half-time, Athletic found themselves in front once again. Arouna Kone’s hold-up play, allowed Franco Di Santo to finish with precise fashion from just inside the box.

However Tony Pulis’ men refused to accept defeat, and with just under 15-minutes to go, Peter Crouch levelled for the Potters after meeting a Walters cross from six-yards.

Newcastle 1-1 Aston Villa

A wonder goal from Hatem Ben Arfa gave Newcastle a share of the spoils denying Paul Lambert’s first win as Aston Villa boss.

The Villians started the stronger, and deservedly took the lead halfway through the first-half through Ciaran Clark, when his header from Barry Bannan’s cross beat Tim Krul in the Toon goal.

However cometh the hour, cometh the man, and on 59 minutes, the Frenchman cut in on seemingly his weaker right foot, and sent a sumptuous drive past Villa keeper, Brad Guzan, to send St James’ Park wild.

It meant that Newcastle climbed into the top half of the table, whilst Villa got off the mark with their first point of the season, climbing out of the relegation places in 17^th.
