“It’s not a trip into reality but a release from your own reality – a trip into fantasy”: Phillip Noyce on Fast Charlie

This new thriller Fast Charlie is an adaptation of the 2001 novel Gun Monkeys written by Victor Gischler, with a screenplay by Richard Wenk, bringing to screen an action-packed storyline.

Stepping away from the original setting in Florida and shifting the focus to New Orleans, the visually striking cinematography and considered music score set the tone of a unique gangster genre film, layered with comedy and moments of romance.

When a long-term mob “fixer” called Charlie Swift (Pierce Brosnan) is paired up with a guy called Blade (Brennan Keel Cook) and given the task of taking down a gangster called Rollo, things get complicated when he ends up decapitated. The only way Swift can claim his money for the job is to clarify his identity, so he seeks out Rollo’s ex-girlfriend Marcie ((Morena Baccarin) who can help him solve the problem. However, as things move along and they encounter all sorts of gangster mayhem, they also find themselves falling in love with each other.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to the film director Phillip Noyce (Salt) about what inspired him to take on the adaptation, how he chose his cast to tell the story and scoping out the exciting venues and locations to bring the movie to life.
