LFW – Yifang Wang S/S 2013 collection at Vauxhall Fashion Scout
A packed-out Freemason’s Hall became the focus of Yifang Wang’s S/S13 collection on Saturday afternoon. A late start due to the sheer number of people wanting to gain access to the show did not fail to impress the crowds. Opening to drum-and-bass-style music, Yifang’s opening piece worked completely with the dramatic tones. A huge black trench coat was first onto the runway, completely plain and simple but made a statement with a huge lock belt around the waist.
Famous for her statement accessories, stating that less is so much more, Yifang put together simplicity with bold and brash touches. Cleverly mixing monochromes with shapely material, the collection for next season was simple but straight to the point. Each piece showcased was black, broken in the middle of the show by two white upper-body garments, one resembling the style of a laboratory coat. These pieces became key, teamed with black undergarments, making a distinct backdrop for the designs. Structural creativity was played with, displaying a host of one-sleeve garments, side-less tops and cut-outs skirts. Each model wore a resin accessory, from a scarf-holder to a four-finger ring, but all added to the effortlessness of the pieces.
There was a definite cultural feel to the collection, with kimonos and over-sized outerwear resembling the martial arts. Her first showcase at Vauxhall Fashion Scout was without a doubt one to remember and we will be sure to know Yifang’s name in the future.
