Laugh or the Polar Bear Gets It at the Hammersmith Apollo

Friends of the Earth have announced the line-up of this year’s Laugh or the Polar Bear Gets It comedy show.

Held at the Hammersmith Apollo, the annual stand-up showcase promises performances from the best of British comedy talent, raising money for the Friends of the Earth charity, whose mission is “to promote a positive relationship between people and the environment”.

Guaranteed to provoke friendly relations from the live show’s audience, acts already confirmed to perform include separate sets from the cult comedy double act Stewart Lee and Richard Herring. Herring, who performed last year’s show, received five star reviews for his last Edinburgh show and is often described as “one of the leading hidden masters of modern British comedy” thanks to the high recommendations of the British Theatre Guide. 

Stewart Lee has also received high praise for his BBC show Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle. Along with his involvement in the controversial Jerry Springer: the Opera stage show and his collaboration with Herring on radio and television since the late 80s, both comedians have garnered a large cult following who are sure to be enthused at the idea of seeing them perform on the same stage again.  

The benefit gig will also include sets from Ed Byrne, Josh Widdicombe, Danny Bhoy and Francesca Martinez, all of whom have become familiar faces from appearances on shows such as Have I Got News for You and Mock the Week, whilst regularly selling out shows in theatres across the UK.

Hosted by comedian and presenter Charlie Baker, Friends of the Earth promise to host an evening which will live up to the high standards set by the Laugh or the Polar Bears Get It shows of the last three years, providing an evening of laughs from an eclectic line-up of comics whilst supporting their future environmental campaigns. 

Looks like the polar bears will be safe for another year.
