Carmex celebrates 75 years with a challenge

Lip savior Carmex is a staple of many a woman’s handbag, and this year the brand is 75 years old.

First concocted on creator  stove, the simple yellow pot has become a cult product across the world. Woelbing created the lip-tingling balm in 1937 as a remedy for his wife’s dry, chapped lips. Using his knowledge of cosmetics, he soon has perfected his quantities and had provided his wife with the perfect solution to her problem.

Seeing the business opportunity, the Woelbings tirelessly slaved away in the kitchen and the locals couldn’t get enough of the stuff. Thousands of tubs were sold in subsequent years through word of mouth. 75 years later, the popularity of Carmex is far from dying down with some 138 pots are sold across the globe every minute. Over the years, the brand has expanded from its signature lip balm in the yellow pot to tubes, lotions and lipsticks.

To celebrate its birthday, Carmex are launching a Facebook challenge: the 75 years with 750,000 Facebook fans promotion.

“Carmex turned 75 this year and is celebrating with our 75 year promotion to thank our fans. Each fan milestone we reach will unlock a new prize. Help spread the word by sharing with friends and family so that we can start giving away prizes and CASH.”

Fans are rewarded with prizes as milestones towards the target of 750,000 “likes” is achieved.

Happy Birthday Carmex! Join in with the celebrations over on Facebook here.
