A true fairytale: The unveiling of the Christian Louboutin Cinderella Shoe
Disney’s Cinderella movie invokes thoughts of glass slippers, wicked stepsisters and the hope that everyone will find their very own prince. However, the famous luxury shoe designer Christian Louboutin has took it upon himself to design a modern day update of the very glass slipper we wish our true love would slip on our own two feet.
Following in the classic Louboutin style, the limited edition Cinderella Shoe feature the traditional red sole and a sky-high 120mm heel. Opting out of using solid glass – a total blister nightmare – he evoked lightness using white lace and sparkling Swarovski crystals.
This magical shoe was put on display for the first time on 4th July in Paris. Perched in royal fashion on a red cushion, and protected by a castle-like structure, the delicate, lace heels adorned with Swarovski elements were shown alongside stills and sketches from the making of the 1950 animated Cinderella film. “Cinderella is not only an iconic character when it comes to beauty, grace and fairy-tale love, but also shoes”, Louboutin said. “Her character and her story dictated the design to me, it was all there in the pages and the words of this tale.”
The shoe is in fact a little flowery and very ornate. The white and silver heel is covered in a Swarovski crystallised butterfly. We aren’t sure how “wearable” this shoe actually is but it makes for a beautiful display. It comes out right in conjunction for Disney’s limited Cinderella blu-ray DVD release this autumn.
