Unlike the idyllic (and slightly unrealistic) clemency of the weather shown in Pixar’s latest movie, the London gala performance of Brave was met with torrential rain. The skies opened up sometime before the first guests started to arrive and continued for a number of hours. This may have had something to do with keeping a few of Pixar’s fans away.

The screening took place yesterday evening at the extremely glamourous BAFTA building in London’s Piccadilly. While the rain may have hurried some of the celebrity attendees down the red carpet, a lookalike of the film’s hero, Merida, was on the scene ready to “brave” the rain.

Those lucky enough to be invited to the event were treated with a performance from the magnificent Birdy. The silken-voiced singer was joined by a full Gaelic band to perform some of the songs from the film’s soundtrack. The event didn’t have quite the same magic as the European Premiere that took place at the Edinburgh International Film Festival last month but there was still quite a buzz around the event. Strangely, the Dutch Premiere took place almost simultaneously to the London Gala performance.
