Jimmy’s Supper Club at Annex East in Stratford

Jimmy’s Supper Club at Annex East in Stratford | Restaurant review

The latest event to immerse itself into the Olympics is a fine dining pop-up experience hitting East London in the form of Jimmy’s Supper Club. From the creators that brought you “The Wild Food Kitchen” and Southwest Supper Club, this new venture celebrates the best of British produce combined with bespoke Olympic entertainment, kicking off on the 20th July till the end of August.

Although the newly built Annex East warehouse might be a little difficult to find at first, it is a ten minute stroll from Stratford station and just 100m from the stadium. Decked out in minimalist fashion with wooden furniture, stools, a custom designed cocktail bar, the tiniest kitchen (it’s remarkable what he pulls out from there); it’s the perfect location and setting for its purpose.

Themed nights include the likes of the hilarious sports comedy Dodgeball (where movies are viewed on a projector screen and a candy floss machine will churn out sweet treats) or Cool Runnings accompanied with a five course Jamaican inspired meal. Other night’s will include an Olympic Opening Ceremony Party with a Champagne reception, Sunday Brunch Sports Club Day, Wine Tasting & Pairing Menu night, other special Film and Feast screenings of Blades of Glory, Chariots of Fire, Live music & DJ’s and fine art exhibitions or gallery shows. If that’s not enough, guests can partake in fun-fuelled Sunday brunch sports like egg & spoon or sack races.

Expect menus to include the excellent crisp trio of pork belly, with the unbelievably melting tender confit cheek, smoked cherry duck breast three ways in a cherry coke reduction, delicate quail egg salad with hints of balsamic or a wild mushroom brioche bread and butter pudding in whiskey jus. Accompanied with pre-courses of stuffed mushroom or crostini canapés, warming prawn bisque and delicate monkfish wrapped in courgette with a grape & pomegranate salad. Not forgetting the deconstructed desserts, laced with fresh berries or the indulgent chocolate petit fours.

Each dish is executed with fine-dining precision and presentation yet still upholds a supper club dining experience with sharing platters to heed conversation, acoustic melodies from a live musician and all dishes paired with matching wine tastings. Expect friendly, attentive service and Jimmy might even come by for a quick chat if you’re lucky.
