Happy House is the very apt name of GBEMi’s AW13 collection. The collection of techni-coloured pieces with exaggerated proportions gives a warm fuzzy feeling inside added to by the playful nature of the mix-matched outfits with giant zips and patch pockets. Her colour palette of vivid and muted tones is complemented by metallic patches, whilst neon-coloured piping creates juxtaposition.

GBEMi – pronounced with a silent “G” – takes inspiration for her collection from colour psychology, art, sportswear, tents, 1950s outerwear and product design. Happy House is GBEMi’s personal vision of the future of peoples’ homes, which she believes will be: “A techni-coloured pleasure dome, a vibrant recreation centre, a domestic amusement arcade, somewhere that will free the spirit, delight the senses and unleash the personality”.

This vision has been realised in her jackets with oversized puffed sleeves, use of layering with garments and colour, as well as simple shapes and long silhouettes.

GBEMi, also known as Alice Oluyitan, is a London-based designer who recently graduated from the University of Brighton. Her degree in fashion design and previous internship with Matthew Williamson gave her an ideal platform to launch what is sure to be a successful career in the fashion industry.
