Vintage looking jewellery is a big trend amongst the small jewellery companies. However, one person has made sure their jewellery makes your ears look just as beautiful as the rest of your body.

Carla Sanders created Carlitta Monchitta and she named the company after the nickname she had at school. She started making earrings for herself and people started to comment on them, asking if she could make some for them too. It led on to friends of friends wanting her earrings, which led her to make gifts and it gradually progressed into a production line. Carla says she became obsessed and found there was always another pair of earrings that could be made. She was being invited to people’s houses and vintage fairs and her business has evolved from there. Sanders makes all her own pieces by hand. They’re made from all sorts of parts: some made from fabrics, and some from resins and shrink plastics.

There is clear evidence in the collection that Carla is inspired by nature. When asked what inspired her to sell jewellery she replied: “I’ve always had a fascination for fabric and I’m a great believer in simple styling, but excessive accessorising. I started making jewellery when I was about six and I used to go to my local caravan park and knock on folks doors and offer them my goods; they sold…so I kept making.” Carla always bears her customer in mind as she tries to make pieces that are suited to anyone who visits her shop.

She finds that her floral pieces sell and it’s understandable why. When you look at her Pink Panther earrings (£6.99) or her Ivory Petals necklace (£8), you immediately want them. Carla says: “Ears are a part of our body that really get forgotten about and I try to encourage ladies to venture into the world of making their ears beautiful.” You can’t argue with that. There are a number of earrings that will make ears look stunning, including these Minty Rose studs (£6.99), Sapphire Fly earrings (£8) and Fluro studs (£4).

So what about the future? At the moment Carla is designing some elaborate feather pieces. She makes her pieces and goes on to wear them, so if the reaction is good to the feather pieces she will start producing more. She is aware she needs to keep up with trends, but she really tries to make something that is unique. This autumn she is going to be styling on romance and she wants the pieces to be beautiful, elegant and over-stated, not cool or shocking. After all, Carlitta Monchitta isn’t about being in your face, it’s about elegant pieces that you want to keep buying.

Keep your eyes peeled for the autumn line, but until then, you can visit Carlitta Monchitta’s website. Go on, make those ears look gorgeous by clicking here!
