Boohoo debuts a top-notch menswear department

Boohoo debuts a top-notch menswear department

Like it or loathe it fast fashion is here to stay, from online retailers such as ASOS to high street behemoths River Island and Topshop/Topman and US import Forever 21.  Your every possible fashion whim is catered for en mass and is often in stores no sooner than it has hit the runways of London, New York, Paris and Milan.

American designer Anna Sui put it succinctly in a recent New York Times article: “Things are obviously a lot different now…It’s not about fabulous anymore. It’s about having 500 friends on Facebook and the same American Apparel outfit to wear to a festival…” This is the state of the world’s shopping habits in 2012 and it is in part driven by the world’s continued economic stagnation.

Enter a new player into the market, Boohoo.com. The online fast fashion site has been outfitting recessionistas for some time and is scoring big with its range of styles and unbelievably low prices. Now, Boohoo is entering the menswear market offering the same choice and affordability to men (recessionistos if you like) around the world. Here at The Upcoming we took a browse – a long one might we add – around the menswear department to bring you some key pieces for autumn/winter, at outrageously low prices.

Navy Parka with fur trim

You probably remember wearing one of these in your childhood. Parkas have been making quite a comeback and this one is a steal at £35.

Creased look blazer

Every man should own at least one blazer. This £35 beauty can be smart or casual and at that price, if the fit is not satisfactory a few extra pounds to have it tailored is more than acceptable.

Crew neck sweater

Another wardrobe staple. Pair this with jeans or cords for a smart casual weekend look; it’s just £15.

Charcoal hooded pullover

Mix it up at the office if you dare and wear this over a shirt and tie, or simply around the house or for those chilly evening gym trips, £12.

Red cotton slim chino

Bright colours should be worn all year round. These chinos are just £20 and will work with most colder weather looks.

Cord detail pocket check shirt

This shirt looks like it could have come from Ralph Lauren. Its £25 price tag belies the fact that it didn’t, but it looks every bit as good as the real thing. Perfect for achieving that New England collegiate preppy look this autumn.

The wild cards

Boohoo also caters for those looking for something a little different. Alongside print tees and graphic sweaters we found these two gems:

Stars & Stripes print jeans

Channel your inner Bruce Springsteen with these jeans that are very Jeremy Scott (The American flag dominates his current Adidas Originals collaboration). Team with a white t-shirt and your favourite leather jacket and trusty Converse. Currently on sale at £13!

The Onesie

Did we just dare suggest it? We did! Hey if it’s good enough for Gossip Girl’s leading man Ed Westwick … and it’s only £25 (available for both men and women).

Boohoo.com ships to the UK, USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
