Fall in love with Rodrigo Otazu, jewellery designer to the stars. Notorious for bejewelling Lady Gaga and bedecking the beautiful Beyonce, Otazu has made a name for himself amongst every performing artist, editor and stylist the world over.

Indeed, Argentinean Otazu views the world as his playground. Something of a bon vivant, he has constantly travelled over the past 20 years seeking inspiration to fuel his craft. Before his big break, he’d fund his excursions by creating Coca-Cola tabs and seashell baubles on the beach.

In 1991, when travelling in Sydney, Australia, an editor discovered his amazing pieces and launched him on the cover of Vogue. Since then, Rodrigo’s collaborations include Christian Lacroix, Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier. Celebrities triumph his statement jewellery: Carrie Bradshaw’s necklace on the cover of SATC 2, Lady Gaga’s crystal choker and cuffs adorning her infamous Meat Dress and Madonna’s embellished black-on-black-on-fishnet ensemble for her latest music video Turn Up the Radio are all Rodrigo designs.otazu necklace

For those of us inspired enough to add a touch of sparkle to our lives, there is no better way to start the week than with one of Rodrigo’s stunning pieces. His designs are exquisite and his zest for life and inherently optimistic outlook are admired. Rodrigo has said “I think jewellery is about feeling and what makes each woman feel good about herself. Jewellery doesn’t make the woman but the right sparkle can make a big impression. I will say, darling, SHINE!”otazu crystal cuff

Currently based in New York, Otazu not only runs his own collections but also collaborates with jewellery heavy-hitters, De Beers and Swarovski.  His personal collections, which once seemed unattainable to mortals, are now within reach by way of his three lines: Rodrigo Otazu, LRCO, and Otazu, all of which are handmade. His statement pieces consist of fabulous bejewelled necklaces, stunning chandelier earrings and crystal encrusted metal cuffs. However, for those of you seeking discretion, Otazu recently signed with De Beers to create a fine diamond jewellery line.

The Upcoming have chosen three favourite pieces to share with our readers:Otazu Crystal Shield an Sword Ring

Crystal Shield and Sword Ring. The shield and sword symbolize protection and might. Otazu has combined the two to create a lavishly designed ring that conjures a magical allure.otazu medalion

This stunning Medallion necklace immediately caught our eye with its concentric circles of faceted crystal.otazu earrings

These Crystal and Bead Dangle earrings are perfect for that cutting-edge glam look.
