Trend alert: Ombre lips

Trend alert: Ombre lips

Ombre is French for a gradual colour transition from dark to light. We’ve seen it on hair, nails and most recently clothing trends. However, ombre lips are the new trend coming fresh off the catwalks for spring/summer 2013.  Most notably seen from Holly Fulton’s London SS13 show, models sported the latest colour blocking trend of two-toned lips by pairing fuchsia and orange lips.

Go bold with bright lips, or create a more neutral everyday look with this two-toned trend.  Pick any two shades of lipstick. They don’t need to be in the same colour category.

In fact this is a really fun beauty trend to step out of your comfort zone with, and pair purple with light pink, fuchsia with bright orange, or go one step bolder with some of the darker looks seen at Dolce & Gabbana with plum and burgundy hues.

Directions are easy! Use the darker lipstick for your whole lip, then apply the lighter shade to the middle of your pout. Blending is key! Use your finger to blend the lighter colour into the darker one, being careful to leave the edges darker than the middle. Some beauty experts suggest topping your lips off with a clear gloss for maximum staying power. This trend can be worn by anyone for all seasons, so for a less permanent ombre solution than dying your hair, try it on your lips!
