Lacquerous: Netflix for nails
Attention nail polish addicts! Lacquerous, touted as “Netflix for nails”, is most definitely the next big thing!
It’s a nail polish sharing service that allows you to try and wear the latest in red carpet and runway nail lacquer without splurging on a full bottle – for a small monthly fee of course.
Your average drugstore nail polishes need not apply: this is for luxury brands only. You can choose from a list of Dior, Chanel, Tom Ford, Nars, Dolce and Gabbana, Deborah Lippmann, MAC, and Butter London polishes.
All you need to do is sign up and for a flat fee of $18 a month (less than the price of one luxury polish) and you will receive your very own selection of three designer lacquers delivered right to your door.
When your time is up, you send it in a prepackaged box, where it is then sent to the next Lacquerous member. Right now, the company offers more than 70 shades, but plans to expand its collection.
Lacquerous bills itself as first online nail sharing service for luxury lacquer, and already boasts a waiting list of over 2,500 people in its first day of business.
When I heard of sharing nail polish with strangers, a few bells rang in my head. How clean can it actually be? Apparently all nail polish contains Ethyl Acetate, where no bacteria or fungus can survive. Essentially it’s the same as getting a manicure at a nail salon.
However, Lacquerous recommends that polish users maintain sanitary nail habits, regular manicures for upkeep, and base coats, which are not included with the deliveries. Users can only apply three coats of polish per rental and Lacquerous monitors polish levels in between dispatches, but otherwise operates on an honour system.
If you’re like us at The Upcoming, and you are always buying the latest shade, then it sits in a drawer collecting dust when you get bored of it, this is the perfect solution for you! Check the site out here and go get your nails done!
