As the third evening of fashion week dawned on us, we  got ready for the reveal of the new Love Mayka collection for A/W 13. Hosted in the ME hotel, on the Strand, we prepared ourselves for a night split into two unique parts.

Beginning on the fifth floor, we were welcomed with champagne as we walked into an installation room. Creeping up the walls were the most amazing images of jelly fish, stars and art deco patterns. The guests were astounded as they watched the installations rise up the tallest ceiling we’d ever seen.

As the room fell silent, two figures covered completely in white lycra and paint entered the room. The duo then started the most exquisite ballet dance while lying on the floor; the aesthetics of the white bodies against the green light was really something and most guests stared on in awe.

After the performance we moved up to the 10th floor to watch the catwalk. As the music started and we could see the swanky panoramic view of the city at night, we awaited the first glimpse of the collection.

The first three models walked in on Pointe, with black ballet shoes and leotards. Each leotard bore a different motif of beautiful art, with white fringe on the shoulders of the garments. Every model wore black lipstick, with gold eyes and a small back beehive and we started to understand designer Mayka Finkelstein Amrami’s vision of art incorporated into fashion.

The rest of the collection included a lot of black sheer chiffons and silk, which flowed beautifully down the runway. Beautiful Egyptian inspired headpieces and jewellery were also very fitting with the collection. Art deco, Japanese inspired dresses and jackets were also a reoccurring theme, but each garment pattern was completely unique. The pieces were striking; using contrasting colours and patterns really paid off for the Love Mayka collection. Feminine shapes, mixed with colour and dance turned out to be a real success for the  brand and it was a joy to watch.
