Located at the trendy Boxpark Unit in the heart of Shoreditch, Simply Fish has attracted shoals of seafood lovers for this evening’s long-awaited launch party. Tonight the Boxpark is adorned with twinkling fairy lights against its minimalistic, stylish wooden architecture: the contemporary appearance is simple, yet striking.

The restaurant’s outside area provides a romantic setting. With long, candle-lit tables dressed with plants and parasols, this would be delightful on a summer evening. Inside the eatery, a multitude of golden balloons swarm from the ceiling, and in the corner of the room, a musician gently sings Moon River while strumming a gigantic harp: the restaurant is visually stunning, even heavenly, this evening.

The majority of tonight’s diners is out for a bite to eat after work, and is eager to try the suavely dressed bartender’s cocktails. The Strawberry mojito is a definite favourite, and judging from the speed they are being taken from the bar, popular with most of the guests. It’s certainly easy to get carried away “sampling” this delicious, tropical libation, and it’s in ample supply. Italian red and white wines are also on hand, the Sicilian nero d’avola a full, fruity brew which pleasantly washes down the starter nibbles (cheesy nachos and nuts) provided.

Cheery waitresses begin to dish out a Salmon tartare as more musicians take to the stage, providing enchanting background music. The salmon is soft in texture and glides down the throat leaving you wanting more, and the accompanying hot fish cakes are succulently creamy and delectable. Smoked mackerel pâté is spread over crispy, crunchy toast bites, making for a satisfying snack – and at £6.95 for a plateful, you can’t go wrong. Another favourite among guests is the classic lobster bisque served in shot glasses, which has an exquisite flavour but is perhaps a little too rich to repeat.

Diners can choose from a range of mains from pollock to plaice, with a selection of sauces and two accompaniments, all for the very reasonable price of £12.50. Specials include Shellfish paella, Chilli salt squid, Thai red fish curry and Cornish mussels, however as the kitchen’s fish is sourced daily, the menu can vary from day to day. For those friends who aren’t too keen on fish, other dishes are available including Rib Eye Steak, poached egg and spiced new potatoes.

The impressive entertainment, amicable staff and top-notch fish makes Simply Fish a must visit for all seafood fanatics…and trust us on the cocktails, you won’t find a better strawberry mojito.
