Tatty Devine: perspex jewellery with flair
Harriet Vine and Rosie Wolfenden are the creative force behind Tatty Devine. The pair have been designing and manufacturing unique jewellery in the UK since 1999 and since then have taken the London’s East End by storm, becoming a favourite and quirky stop in Brick Lane, as well as having a store in Oxford Street’s Selfridges Branch. The Brick Lane branch was recently named “Best Small and Beautiful Shop” by Time Out London and the public voted the shop as one of the “Best for Women’s Fashion” in a survey by the Telegraph.
Tatty Devine encompass everything about expressing yourself: the pieces range in colour, shape and size and offer looks which the creators describe as ones that blur “the boundaries between art, fashion and culture”. Almost all of the Jewellery from Tatty Devine is hand-made in workshops in London and Kent and the pieces really do offer a confident, vibrant and exciting twist to any look. The collection offers something for everyone, workable and wearable, set to turn heads wherever you go.
Harriet and Rosie met at art school and their pieces truly depict inspiring and outgoing women within the world of fashion. The new spring / summer ’13 collection expresses the confidence and colour that the name is best known for. For example, the “Hot House Leaves Necklace”, which comes in Gold and Green, screams Tropical Palm Trees and summer fruits, giving any look an exclusive and vibrant finish. The “Goddess Sunrise Necklace” also delivers contrasting bold colours to create the perfect statement necklace; perfect for dressing up maxi dresses and block colour looks.
The company are most famous for their Perspex pieces but also use fabric, wood, leather and a range of other materials. The wooden ‘Sea Horse Necklace’ is one of the more subtle and delicate pieces. This more earthly look introduces an element of boohoo and beach chic in time for summer 2013.
As well as taking on the High Street, Tatty Devine have collaborated with British designers, such as Louise Gray and Peter Jensen, and have also produced exclusive one-off pieces for the Tate, the Victorian and Albert Museum and Selfridges, injecting their distinctive and bold style into the world of art and fashion. The company are continuing to grow and are certainly one to keep an eye on. Harriet and Rosie stick to their principles of manufacturing in the UK and will continue to be “motivated by fun”.
