NYFW S/S’14 – Joanna Mastroianni: girls just want to have fun

What began as a flirty and sophisticated resort-wear line ended as a couture, gallery-worthy collection. Joanna Mastroianni’s spring/summer 2014 line is a force to be reckoned with amongst next season’s citrus yellows and body-conscious silhouettes.

The designer’s modern yet dramatic clothes were heavily embellished with beads, sequins, feathers, paillettes, and hand-painted textiles. Among these gorgeous ornamentations, Mastroianni also played with colours you could practically taste: sweet oranges, sour yellows, fresh blues and frothy whites. This collection’s flirty attitude was also seen in the bronze “beach-tan” make-up and sky-high ponytails that bounced to the beat of pop music that played overhead. Furthermore, props to the casting director who found fun models that worked those extra long finale gowns.

Mastroianni’s message with this collection for spring is to play with fashion and keep the outfit simple. No fuss means more fun to be had.
