Gig fashion: Dos and don’ts

Whenever we go to a gig, we are amazed at the level of devotion fans show to the artist. And this can be seen in the outfits they wear to the artist’s gig. Lady Gaga-themed outfits, Rolling Stones t-shirts … any way that fans can show their love at a gig, they will show it.

We’ve seen a lot of different outfits at gigs. The amount of diverse and creative outfits we see from fans is outstanding. For some, the minute you buy your gig ticket, is the countdown to the musical night of your dreams, for others however, it’s the start of the planning process, i.e. the minute when you start asking: “What am I going to wear?”

We completely understand. We’ve all been there. As the days to the gig get closer and closer, you begin to panic. It’s the night of the gig. You’re freaking out and truly considering going to the gig naked. Well guys, there’s no need to strip down to your birthday suit. Help is at hand. We’re here to clue you in on the different kinds of gig fashion, and give you tips for what to wear on a gig night out.

Dress for the environment

If you’re going to a rock concert, for example Linkin Park or Slipknot, then this is probably not the best place to wear a ball gown. Actually don’t wear a dress at all, especially with all the mosh pits, sweat and beer flying around. Think about it this way: what can you wear, that you don’t mind getting ruined or dirty? Also what can you put on, that is comfortable and will help you survive standing and being squashed in a crowd for four hours straight?

Get creative

Gigs are a great excuse to get creative. Many Lady Gaga fans (nicknamed Monsters) chose to wear one of the artist’s many unusual outfits to her concerts. So imagine a 35-year-old woman (or man) wearing a Lady Gaga Bad Romance-themed outfit. Now that’s dedication. So if you’re going to a gig and feel a little inspired, then go for it.

Show your devotion to the artist

So you’ve bought a ticket and obviously you must like the artist. So why not show your devotion by wearing their merchandise. Band t-shirts are a great choice. Plus they don’t cost too much money and depending on the artist in question, can be found anywhere.

Dress up for something afterwards

Many girls like to get really dressed up for gigs and will wear heels to any event no matter what; even if they’re in the standing section. So don’t be afraid to put on your Sunday best, just be warned about those blisters.

The classic gig outfit

And if all else fails and you’re really stuck for what to wear, stick to the forever classic: jeans and a t-shirt. So easy; there are numerous ways to dress up or dress down this staple look. No matter who you’re going to see, you can’t go wrong with jeans and a t shirt. It’s a classic.
