Cara Delevingne unveils new collection for Mulberry

Fashion’s “it” girl seems to be consistently hitting the headlines as a result of her impressive and diverse talents. From catwalk queen to sultry singer, British supermodel Cara Delevingne has everything going for her. Having added “co-designer” to her list of achievements, a striking line of bags created for Mulberry was unveiled at Claridge’s during London Fashion Week.

The Mulberry Cara Delevingne launch featured a pack of 30 grey whippets wandering around a mystical, smoke-filled woodland scene, with Delevingne swaying on a bespoke swing. Flitting around barefoot, she exhibited the bags whilst showcasing their beautiful functionality – clever straps that convert from backpack to shoulder to hand-held, allowing these satchels to be used for a variety of excursions. The three styles, each available in three sizes, are created in a selection of leathers and colours such as emerald, cobalt and grey camouflage, delivering an attractive feminine yet utilitarian aesthetic.

Delevingne worked closely with the team at Mulberry to select the finest leathers, handles and buckles for the collection, amid designs bearing the familiar brass hardware of the British heritage brand. With the ability to effortlessly take the wearer from day to night, their unique versatility should ensure them a place on thousands of women’s wish-lists – preventing the need for women to change their bags too often. The quirky model also confessed that the first bag she wore to death was a Mulberry Edie.

Delevingne’s tattoos are also incorporated in the collection; she wanted each bag to be like opening a letter and discovering a surprise. The lion and heart inked on her fingers are replicated in a lion rivet and heart-shaped patch hidden inside the accessory. Her appropriate “Made in England” tattoo on the sole of her foot is also inscribed on the lower surface of each bag. The aspiring designer explained: “I wanted there to be hidden gems inside, based on things that are personal to me, which my tattoos definitely are.”

Delevingne said she could not wait to start Instagram-ing her collection; with a following of more than four million, the collaboration is certain to succeed.
