Bunny Butt Apothecary: health-conscious and fun

Making yourself look gorgeous should be fun, even if you’re being health-conscious and trying to use organic products. At Bunny Butt Apothecary they do just that.BBA smear n sniff

Bunny Butt began in late 2007 when Anya decided that making the world smell better was a far more noble goal than writing her honours thesis on Victorian literature. Since then, Bunny Butt has grown by leaps and bounds, as one would expect from such an aptly titled enterprise. Lovingly named after Bunny and Other Bunny, who spent much of their early lives slyly nibbling at scattered pieces of soap, the moniker also reflects their commitments to cruelty-free ingredients and practices. BBA whipped cream

Bunny Butt Apothecary is based around the fine balance between the conscientiously serious and the light-heartedly silly. The mission is to bring you effective, health-conscious bath and body products without sacrificing the fun. After all, if you’re going to spend good money on a bar of soap, shouldn’t it at least smell fabulous? But everything that goes on your body, goes in your body, hence their philosophy: if it’s going in there, it better be good! They place a principal focus on natural ingredients, blended with carefully chosen synthetics and topped off with the most fun, most delicious smells they can get their hands on. BBA lip balms

The packaging on Anya’s products is fab; they have a bit of a “ye olde” feel to them. The lip balms are intriguing and come in unusual flavours, such as lychee, mojito, red currant and coconut lemongrass, to name just a few. If you want to nourish your skin, you should definitely try the whipped cream. You can choose from 13 different flavours, from cucumber tea to “let them eat birthday cake”, but don’t try and eat them! If you were given a “smear ‘n’ sniff” gift set you might think that sounds a bit gross. However, it’s far from that. You get a “whipped cream” and a “smell me!” perfume set, and you can pick the same scents or you can mix and match.

What inspires such an unusual range of beauty products? Anya shed some light on this: “Most of my inspiration in life at this point comes either from Victorian literature or post-modern gender theory, neither of which seems very apropos when it comes to craftiness. Let’s go with: I thrive on synergy – whether it’s puns or colourful patterns or the coincidental randomness of events. Craft, even in its most quotidian variants, is about creating something that’s new and meaningful and greater than the sum of its parts.”
