Meg Mathews designs vegan handbag collection for Wilby

Meg Mathews, PETA’s celebrity liaison, has teamed up with vegan accessories label Wilby to design a new line of eco-friendly and leather-free handbags.Wilby1

The Primrose Hill Set features an oversized tote, a city bag, clutches and a backpack, which have all been made from recycled cork and metal. Each item will be available in black, mustard, pillar box red and electric blue.

“I love fashion almost as much as I love helping animals, and my new Wilby line has allowed me to combine two of my greatest passions,” said Mathews. “I am proud to create eco-friendly handbags that will allow shoppers to find a chic new look without harming a single cow, sheep or any other animal.”

Wilby bags are manufactured in the UK, in line with the brand’s motto and famous saying of Mahatma Gandhi: “There is no beauty in the finest cloth if it makes hunger and unhappiness.” Use of animal-free materials prevents unnecessary suffering and the deprivation of food and water. For example, the leather industry continues to perform painful mutilations, such as tail-docking, dehorning and castration, without painkillers. At abattoirs, many cows are inadequately stunned and skinned while they are still conscious. Wilby2

This new range of vibrant, chic handbags, takes one further step towards creating a world in which animals do not need to be harmed in the name of fashion. In addition, a percentage of each sale will be donated to PETA.

The collection will be available online here. Prices range from £39 – £120.
