On the autumn/winter 2014 campaign trail

Although summer has scarcely begun, fashion campaigns for next season are already trickling into our inbox. Many of our favourite brands have collaborated with the greatest photographers to produce striking stills that introduce us to autumn/winter 2014.

Nicolas Ghesquière’s debut fashion campaign for Louis Vuitton has arrived. Three legendary photographers – Bruce Weber, Annie Leibovitz and Juergen Teller – have each provided their unique visual signature, snapping four “contemporary heroines”: longtime LV muse Charlotte Gainsbourg and models Liya Kebede, Freja Beha Erichsen and Jean Campbell.

Entitled Series 1, the new campaign is strongly inspired by Ghesquière’s first collection for Vuitton – one that references the 1970s, with a youthful edge and inherent wearability.

Alexa Chung returns as the face of Longchamp for the second successive season, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the iconic Le Pliage bag. Photographed by Max Vadukul, at Château des Ormes, Chung showcases the new Le Pliage Héritage bag – a trapezoidal design – as well as an adorable Jack Russell.

An accompanying video, Longchamp Heritage with a Twist, directed by Jean-François Julian and featuring Chung in a series of Alice in Wonderland scenarios, is set to air on the website on 9th September.

Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott chose Steven Meisel to photograph his first collection for the Italian fashion house. Shot in black and white, the powerful images exhibit the acclaimed Pop Couture” creations and unmistakeable accessories, worn by Linda Evangelista, Stella Tennant, Carolyn Murphy, Saskia Debraw, Karen Elson and Rachel Zimmerman.

“People often ask me who my favourite photographer is, and it’s Cindy Sherman,” Scott explained, “but my favourite artist is Meisel.”

Nicola Formichetti has teamed up with Nick Knight for Diesel’s new campaign, which merges great moments in culture.

The pictures borrow from art history, with figures of male nudes reworked into a landscape that simultaneously evokes Michelangelo, Italian futurist paintings and modern Glitch Art. Against this, a cast comprising musicians, internet foundlings and actors, pose in outfits of gleaming dark leather – a classic Diesel staple. Yet again, Knight and Formichetti have shown their ability to unite past and future, producing a dynamic and vibrant vision of the present.

Versace’s autumn/winter offering is all about “power, seduction, freedom and glamour”. The images were shot by Mert & Marcus, overseen by Donatella Versace, and feature models Anna Ewers and Stella Tennant.

“In the new campaign, I wanted to express the power and freedom of Versace today,” said Donatella. “The women’s images are about strength and sensuality, with women in total control.” Sounds about right to us!
