How to: Wear white trainers

How to: Wear white trainers

They go with everything, they’re comfortable and they’re the epitome of minimal dressing – yes that’s right, it’s the classic white trainer and it has become the darling of fashion the world. From kids on the street topping off their all black outfits with laid-back white pumps, to fashion editors donning box-fresh sneakers to hop from show to show, the white trainer signifies a trend that is wearable, stylish and here to stay.

So, how on earth are you supposed to wear the most normcore of trends without actually dressing like your Dad or the king of normcore himself, Larry David?

Sports style

Team your fresh white trainers with soft grey sweat pants and stylish sports jackets for a chilled comfortable look. To create a fashion-forward sports luxe feel, keep to garments that have a relaxed sporty style mixed with creative tailored features, such as jogging bottoms with a front pleat or leather detailed finishes.

With a smart jacket

Mix your casual, crisp white sneakers with a long, boyfriend-cut smart coat. Think old man tweed or oversized camel coat in laid-back, toned down colours. To look super cool, wear over the top of cropped trousers and a long whiter-than-white shirt all topped off with a cosy beanie to tie the whole smart slacker style together. You will be looking like a top notch fashionista before you know it.

Daytime denim

Look a little more 90s with a denim skirt and white trainers. Short or knee length, the denim skirt will give a more retro vibe to the white trainer trend and can be worn paired with cute loose shirts or baggy muted tees. If it is a little too cold to bare so much skin, jeans also work for this look: wear them skinny or a little loose, like boyfriend jeans, for example, and roll them up at the bottom so that they hang just by your ankle to get the whole preppy look going on.

All black everything

For the cool cats out there the only way to wear white trainers is to wear all black everything else. These monochromatic fans swear at the altar of black; black skinny trousers, big black oversized scarves, black jackets – you get the idea. Except for the trainers: if you top your noir ensemble off with a pair of gleaming white kicks then you will have the (almost) all black everything down to a street style T.

Fear not! The white trainer is easy to wear with so many different looks and is a simple way to create a fresh look with your wardrobe staples. Remember, it isn’t about battered old gig-going Converse; clean and crisp is key. Keep it simple and you can’t go wrong.
