Alexander Wang and The Weeknd announce collaboration
In the wake of his split from Balenciaga earlier this year, all eyes have been on designer Alexander Wang, waiting for his next move in the development of his eponymous brand. Now, following his hugely successful 10th anniversary show, Wang has a new project on his hands; a collaboration with one of the biggest names of the moment, The Weeknd.
Alexander Wang and The Weeknd already doubled up a few times in the past. Back in April, the singer took over Wang’s Instagram account to document his experience headlining Coachella (dressed exclusively in Alexander Wang, of course). Together, they created a black and white bandana for the performer to hand out to his fans, emblazoned with the slogan #WANGXO – the “XO” being a reference to The Weeknd’s existing line of fashion and merchandise.
The singer also participated in Wang’s 10th anniversary campaign with the non-profit organisation, Do Something, and – on a personal level – he recently made his public debut with girlfriend Bella Hadid at Wang’s spring/summer 2016 show.
Now, according to an eight-second teaser video posted on the designer’s Instagram, they’re set to take on their biggest collaboration yet; a limited-edition capsule collection entitled WANGXO.
This exclusive new range is set to include hoodies, T-shirts and a bandana featuring graphics inspired by The Weeknd’s lyrics and logo. Considering what we know about both artists, it’s a relatively safe assumption that it’s going to be dark, it’s going to be edgy, and it’s going to be popular.
The singer will be sporting the new designs, along with pieces from Alexander Wang’s menswear collection, throughout his tour, The Madness, which kicked off just last week. It will then arrive in Alexander Wang stores and online later this month.
“Stay tuned,’ read the ominous caption on Wang’s Instagram post. Apparently we haven’t seen the last of this new pairing.
