Tonight, Coldplay played their comeback concert at St John-at-Hackney for BBC Radio 1. On the eve of the global release of their new album A Head Full of Dreams, the band fronted by Chris Martin showcased four new songs in front of a tight audience of hardcore fans, industry moguls and select media.

The performance, aired live on Annie Mac’s show, began with title-track A Head Full of Dreams, the singalong-inducing opener of their latest release. The four-piece showed great form as they played a mix of hits – Clocks, Fix You, A Sky Full of Stars – and hits-to-come – Hymn for the Weekend, Adventure of a Lifetime, Everglow.

There was also a little surprise for the public, an off-broadcast encore: right after the live streaming ceased, Coldplay delighted the crowd with their festive song Christmas Lights.
