The multi-talented Idris Elba can turn his expert hands to practically anything. Last month, the 43-year-old superstar launched his collection for Superdry. He spent the day at the Regent Street store meeting people, promoting his 250-piece range and taking over the fashion brand’s social media feeds for the day – much to the delight of Idris fans.

The Golden Globe-winning actor took time out of his busy schedule – which also involves a career in music – to design a collection alongside Superdry’s co-founders, James Holder and Julian Dunkerton. Idris was heavily involved throughout the entire process, brainstorming ideas and reviewing samples, as well as selecting those all-important fabrics.

It’s a process he’s been very invested in. “I’m not the kind of guy who will wear a pair of jeans I was sent and then endorse them, that’s just not me,” he said to The Telegraph. “This collaboration has come about in a very genuine way. I discovered them thanks to [stylist] Cheryl Conti and wore a coat designed as part of a Superdry collaboration with Timothy Everest for a commercial I filmed for Sky. I loved it and continued to wear it. So it evolved very naturally”.

The Luther actor doesn’t claim to be a fashion designer, but has said: “I know how men want to look”. He’s created a “24-hour” collection so guys can look the part from day to night. Naturally, the range is suave to reflect Idris himself. Deep colours are key, with plenty of midnight blue, graphite grey and jet black at the forefront.

Ticking our boxes are the Leading London Coat for its unmistakeable class, and the IE Classic Beanie which introduces a must-have casual aesthetic that he is equally fond of. As well as coats and accessories, you’ll be hard-pressed to find something you don’t like in knitwear, hoodies and sweatshirts, shirts, tees, polos and trousers.

Idris’ designs have especially added to Superdry’s existing range of jeans. The IE Classic Blue Jeans are particularly cool, with their nod to the 1950s. For the most part, however, the collection is modern and to the point. No matter which item from the expansive range you choose, you’re going to look gentlemanly and delectable all at once.

This autumn/winter 2015 offering from Idris Elba and Superdry has got everyone excited. So much so, in fact, that people are already asking questions about another range. Watch this space…
