In a quiet corner of Mayfair, a small audience got to witness some of the UK’s hottest vocal talent at a secret open mic event hosted by The Voice on Wednesday night. The evening consisted of powerful performances from the show’s finalists, ahead of the live quarter-finals taking place this Saturday, alongside engaging appearances from all four of the panel of judges.

Each of the contestants proved to the audience why they had come so far in the competition by effortlessly belting out creative renditions of well-known songs. Team Ricky, Team Paloma, Team will.iam and Team Boy George all confidently took to the stage and provided enjoyable and impressive performances, leaving one question hanging in the air: who was going to become the 2016 champion? Wednesday’s show was unable to provide an ultimate answer to this conundrum, with all finalists giving high-quality, jaw-dropping performances. Although it was difficult to distinguish the cream of the crop, highlights included Cody Frost’s rendition of Abba’s Lay All Your Love on Me, Kevin Simm’s performance of Sia’s Chandelier and Beth Morris’ version of Tina Turner’s Netbush City Limits.

Aside from the incredible music, the judges also added to the evening’s entertainment. Will.i.am declared that his team of three “L’s” (Lauren, Lyrikal and Lydia) would not be welcoming a fouth “L” in the form of losing, and the team went on to support this statement with an exciting impromptu a capella of beatboxing, rapping and singing. Meanwhile, Paloma Faith stated that she hoped to be “empowering women” through her involvement on The Voice and Boy George shared praised all of the talent being displayed on the latest series of the show.

It was abundantly clear at the evening’s hush-hush concert that both judges and singers are passionate about developing the music industry by contributing some of the UK’s most creative, undiscovered talent. With such compelling snippets of the competition, Britain should brace themselves for what is yet to come in the live finals of The Voice.
