Another year of entertainment is already on its way, as we head deeper into the coldest remaining weeks of winter with the controversial Messiah and, of course, South Park: Season 22!

There’s a lot more to come yet, but today, we will only concentrate on what’s already here. Rather than speculating on how good or popular future shows can be, let’s take a look at the five most popular shows on demand that you can watch right now.

Top Boy – Netflix

Over the course of many years, Netflix has managed to produce some of the best crime thrillers in TV/streaming history, and Top Boy is looking to follow that trend. Keep in mind that London’s favourite crime drama at the moment is not exactly a new series, but rather a revival/continuation of the original two-season show that concluded in 2013 on channel Four.

The Good Place – Netflix

It’s almost hard to believe that a sitcom would become such a hit on Netflix in 2019-2020, but The Good Place is pulling it off quite spectacularly! With great acting from Kristen Bell and Ted Danson powering its three seasons, this little comedy about trying to be a better person in heaven is quite an intriguing little concept really.

Love Island – ITV2

If you are even remotely interested in TV and novelty betting, then you probably already knew that this BAFTA Award-winning reality TV show was going to be on this list. In case you are having an argument with someone about who Jess is going to pick in between Mike and Luke, no other dating reality show offers you a better chance of putting your money where your mouth is than Love island.

Star Trek: Picard – Amazon Prime Video

Sir Patrick Stewart is an absolutely amazing actor who can’t be overrated, and while some will put his portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star trek below that of William Shatner as James T. Kirk, it’s mostly a nostalgic homage more than anything else. As if to further validate that point, Patrick Stewart is now winning hearts as Captain Picard once again in this much-awaited series from Amazon Prime Video.

The Boys – Amazon Prime Video

What if Superman (or Homelander in this case) was downright evil and absolutely psychotic? What if there wasn’t a strong enough being on the planet to take him down? Well, that’s part of what The Boys is all about, but there’s more going on in there too. The Boys is possibly one of the most well-made and well thought of superhero TV shows available to watch at the moment, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that people in the UK and all over the world are absolutely loving it!

Of course, these listings can change in a matter of weeks because the year is still very young after all. As an audience though, the fact that shows such as Altered Carbon and Stranger Things are getting a second and fourth season respectively this very year, can only feel like wonderful news.
