Selfridges restaurant to host Greek mythology feast beneath Damien Hirst’s Pegasus sculpture
Brasserie of Light, the restaurant housed within Selfridges on Oxford Street, will host a one-night-only Greek mythology-themed dinner called House of Olympus next Saturday. Priced at £45 per person, the evening combines a three-course menu and cocktails inspired by the region with live entertainment. It’s part of a wider Dreams of Olympus summer menu, which runs for a limited period this year in tandem with the release of Odysseus in cinemas and more public interest in Ancient Greece.
The evening centres on a specially curated meal drawing on Greek cooking. Following a welcome cocktail, dishes include Tuna Lakerda, traditional Loukaniko Sausage and Grilled Chicken Tzatziki. For dessert, diners can choose between Pagoto Greek Yoghurt served with crispy kataifi, pistachio, rose and wild Greek honey, or a Greek Custard Pie.
Entertainment will include a DJ, a live vocalist and roaming performers, with the eatery’s interiors reimagined as the House of Olympus for the duration. The unique setting is a big part of the experience: diners sit beneath Pegasus, a 24ft crystal sculpture by Damien Hirst that hangs over the dining room.
Also available on the night is the Dreams of Olympus cocktail list, which takes its cues from figures and stories from the ancient mythology. Serves include The Gift of Athena, the Spartini and A Thousand Ships, the last of these referencing the story of Helen of Troy.
Attached to the cocktail range is a prize draw run in partnership with Quintessentially Travel, the travel arm of the lifestyle concierge company Quintessentially. Guests who order a Dreams of Olympus cocktail and sign up to both the Brasserie of Light and Quintessentially Travel newsletters can enter a competition to win a three-night trip to Mykonos.
The film adaptation of The Odyssey is currently showing, and Selfridges Oxford Street just happens to have its very own cinema. The team at Brasserie of Light have suggested the House of Olympus dinner could be the perfect follow-up to a viewing.
