Music festivals in London in 2020
If you know how to pick a good hammered dulcimer then you are certainly experienced when it comes to music and you might be interested in knowing what music festivals you should keep in mind this year. There is a lot that’s going to happen this summer in London, especially since the most popular festivals and events that took place in 2019 have already announced their return.
While many of them are still putting together all the information and have yet to announce venues and artists, you can still start to pencil the upcoming ones into your calendar.
Spring and early summer festivals
A new festival in 2019, Re-Textured paired excellent light shows with great and cutting-edge electronic music, for an overall seamless experience. Everything took place in modernist buildings, and this year’s lineup includes SOPHIE, Ben UFO, Daniel Avery, and many others. Re-Textured is taking place in various venues around London between 2nd and 5th April, so you can already check out the official website for tickets.
The next event you should keep in mind is the Brixton Disco Festival, which is pretty much a day-long celebration spread around great venues, where people go to enjoy disco music. The announced lineup includes Jocelyn Brown, Crazy P and John Morales, and the scheduled date is 2nd May.
We Are FSTVL is an event that’s making a comeback for the Bank Holiday weekend and features a lineup with names such as Nine Kraviz, Carl Cox, Camelphat, The Black Madonna, and many others. The venue is at the Damyns Hall Aerodrome, RM14 and this is a two-day dancing event.
Another house and disco festival that you don’t want to miss out on is the Gala. The event is going to take place across two days, this being a first in the festival’s five-year history. The announced artists include Bradley Zero, Jayda G, Gerd Janson, as well as many others, and if you want to book the dates, it takes place on 23rd and 24th May, at Peckham Rye Park, SE15.
If you are looking for a multi-genre event, the All Points East festival is the one to go to. The event is taking place across two weekends, on May 22-24 and May 29-31, and includes artists such as Tame Impala, Iggy Pop, and The Kooks, as well as others. Keep in mind that you have to buy separate tickets for each day, and the event takes place at Victoria Park.
Wide Awake is a brand new fest this year, and it features a quite eclectic lineup, including The Comet Is Coming, Metronomy, Shame, Goat Girl, Black Midi, and many others. The event is scheduled for June 5th and it’s going to take place in Brockwell Park.
Those who want to enjoy techno-heavy days in London can definitely take a look at Junction 2, a festival that is scheduled to take place in Boston Manor Park on 5th and 6th June. The already announced artists include Jon Hopkins, Honey Dijon, Four Tet, and Amelie Lens, as well as others.
Summer festivals
Those who want to join the summer in an LGBTQ+-friendly way can check out the Mighty Hoopla festival, especially since it’s probably going to be a great event with good vibes and plenty of good music. The lineup includes well-known names such as Natasha Bedingfield, Anastacia, Gabrielle, Cheryl, Atomic Kitten, as well as others, and it’s scheduled for 6th June.
Also in June, there’s a little something for jazz-lovers as well, namely the Cross the Tracks festival. This is, in fact, a returning festival and we can safely call it a mix of great jazz-funk-soul music. Brockwell Park will welcome famous names such as Sister Sledge, Gilles Peterson, Tinariwen, Shabaka, and more.
June has many other events as well, including the Lovebox festival, that is extending to three days this year and will take place in Gunnersbury Park. If you want to check out artists such as Khalid, Tyler, Disclosure, the Creator, or JME, this is the place to be between 12th and 24th June.
The Hampton Court Palace Festival might catch your eye as well, given that it comes with a series of concerts between 5th and 19th June. The venue is pretty clear and the invited artists include Tom Jones, Lionel Richie, Rick Astley, George Benson and many others.
Boasting huge names from pop and rock music, the BST Hyde Park event is not one you want to miss out on. You will be able to see Taylor Swift, Pearl Jam, Kendrick Lamar, Little Mix, Pixies, and many others. The festival is scheduled to take place in July, but make sure to check out the official website for the latest details.
Along the same lines and also in July, the Wireless festival comes back for another year. Between 3rd and 5th July, you will be able to listen to A$AP Rocky, AJ Tracey, Skepta, Meek Mill, as well as others.
